Quick verdict: I play my Deck more than my desktop, and this is the list of games I actually finished on it, with real numbers. Balatro gets 9 hours of battery at 6.5 watts. Hades 2 runs 60fps and eats just 8.5 watts. Elden Ring holds 30fps on an 11 watt budget. The Deck is a curated machine in 2026, over 25,000 games are Verified or Playable, and this list tells you which ones are worth the install space.

How to Read This List
Steam Deck coverage is full of hype and short on numbers. Valve's Verified badge tells you a game runs, but it does not tell you how it runs: a Verified game can still chug at 25fps with 90 minute battery life. This list uses actual measured performance, fps and watts, from community testing and my own sessions.
The context matters too. Valve hiked Deck OLED prices to $789 and $949 in May 2026, the LCD model is gone, and refurbished units are the budget route at $629 for OLED and $279 to $359 for LCD. With hardware this expensive, buying games that run badly on it hurts twice. Check your game against this list before you spend.
The Battery Kings: 9 Hours Plus
These are the games that turn a flight into an entire trilogy. All measured on the OLED Deck:
- Balatro: 6.5 watts, about 9 hours of battery. The poker roguelike is the perfect Deck game, small install, quick runs, and it suspends perfectly. I finished more Balatro runs on the Deck than on my desktop
- Stardew Valley: 60fps at very low power draw, landing it in the battery king tier. The coziest game in the list
- Vampire Survivors: 60fps, tiny power draw, and runs are 30 minutes. The "one more run" game that works perfectly on a handheld
- Slay the Spire 2: 60fps in Early Access, Deck Verified at launch, and light on battery. The sequel arrived in March 2026 and it was made for the Deck
The Perfect Deck Games: 60fps and Suspend-Friendly
The sweet spot for handheld play is 60fps with quick suspend, so you can put the Deck down mid-run and pick it up a week later. These four are flawless at it:
- Hades 2: 60fps at 8.5 watts, about 7 hours on OLED. The run-based structure is made for suspend, and Supergiant games are famously Deck-tuned. The best action roguelike on the platform, full stop
- Hollow Knight: Silksong: 60fps, native 16:10, 4 to 5 hours of battery. It shipped for the Deck and it shows. The best platformer on the list
- Dead Cells: 60fps, light, and the perfect session length. Motion Twin has kept it updated for years and it has never run better than on the Deck
- Celeste: 60fps, suspend-friendly, and a game about persistence that suits handheld play perfectly. The 1,000th death hits different on a bus
The AAA That "Shouldn't" Run but Do
The Deck's party trick is playing games that have no business running on a handheld. These need settings work, and the numbers are honest:
- Elden Ring: 30fps at 11 watts on LCD, about 40fps on the OLED with the right settings. It is stable, it is playable, and the open world is huge on a 7 inch screen. Our Elden Ring guide has the build advice that makes the Deck sessions count
- Cyberpunk 2077: 30fps with FSR on. The city looks softer than on desktop, and it still looks like Cyberpunk, which is the whole trick
- Baldur's Gate 3: 30fps on the native Deck build. Turn-based combat is forgiving of framerate, and the game suspends cleanly between fights
- Civilization VII: 30fps, which matters less than in any action game. One more turn on the couch is dangerous
Co-Op on Deck
The Deck is a great co-op machine if you pick the right games. Split Fiction runs 60fps and supports a Friend's Pass, so one copy covers two people across two Decks. Deep Rock Galactic Survivor is the lighter co-op pick that runs great handheld. For local two-Deck sessions, anything on our co-op list that is Verified will do, but Split Fiction is the current champion.
New 2026 Picks
Two 2026 releases earned their spot immediately:
- Forza Horizon 6: Verified at launch in May 2026, and tuned for the Deck with the 40fps cap below. The best racing game on the platform, bar none
- Civilization VII: 30fps and perfect for the format. The turn-based loop is a natural fit for suspend
From the cozy side, Fields of Mistria hit 1.0 this month and is Deck Verified, and Moonlight Peaks launched in July with Deck support. Both are in our Stardew-like list, and both are excellent Deck games.
The 40fps Sweet Spot
One setting fixes more games than any other: cap the framerate at 40. The Deck's 90Hz OLED screen divides cleanly into 40fps, which means no frame drops and no tearing, and the battery win over 60fps is real. For anything struggling to hold 60, set 40 and move on. It is the difference between a game that feels broken and a game that feels fine. Our Deck settings guide has the full tuning walkthrough.
What NOT to Play on Deck
The honesty section. Three types of games are bad Deck experiences no matter the badge:
- Mouse-heavy strategy: Paradox grand strategy, old-school RTS, anything with a cursor-heavy UI. The trackpads help, they do not save it
- Games with mandatory launchers: anything that forces its own launcher on top of Steam ruins the suspend flow and eats startup time. Check before you buy
- Big-text MMOs: tiny UI text on a 7 inch screen is a reading test, not a game. The free MMOs on our free Steam list mostly qualify

Battery figures are OLED Deck measurements from community testing and my own sessions, August 2026. The LCD model gets roughly 20 to 30 percent less battery on the same games, so adjust expectations on the refurb route.
FAQ
Does the Steam Deck run everything?
No, and pretending otherwise wastes your money. Over 25,000 games are Verified or Playable as of January 2026, which is more than any other handheld, but the failures are real: anti-cheat games like Destiny 2 do not run, and some games with mandatory launchers fight the Deck. The list above is the curated truth.
What are the best free games on Deck?
Warframe, CS2, and Marvel Rivals are the best free Deck games, all Verified and all in our free Steam games list. Team Fortress 2 runs great too, though the bots are a known pain.
Should I buy refurbished or new in 2026?
Refurbished is the value pick after the price hikes: OLED refurbs at $629, LCD refurbs at $279 to $359. Valve sells them with warranty coverage, which takes most of the risk out. New OLED units run $789 and $949 after the May 2026 increase. Our handheld comparison breaks down the alternatives too.
Can I upgrade the storage?
Yes, and you should. The Deck uses 2230 NVMe SSDs, and upgrading a 64GB or 256GB model is a 15 minute job with a screwdriver. It is the single best Deck upgrade. Our SSD guide covers which drives fit.
What battery life should I expect?
It ranges from about 9 hours on light 2D games like Balatro and Stardew to 2 to 3 hours on AAA titles like Elden Ring at 11 watts. The 40fps cap and a brightness drop stretch everything by 20 to 30 percent. The battery chart above is the honest version.
Why did Deck prices go up in 2026?
The memory shortage. The same AI-driven RAM crunch that pushed up PC hardware prices raised Deck costs too, with OLED models jumping to $789 and $949 in May 2026. Valve's own statement basically said the Deck hardware is unchanged, component costs moved instead. Refurbs are the workaround.
